The Lumberjack Men's Basketball team picked up a weekend sweep to open up 2026. The Jacks defeated Minnesota West 90-82 on Friday and Gillette College 67-58 on Saturday.
90-82 Win over Minnesota West
It was a tightly contested game in the early going. The Jacks went on an 11-2 run to open up a 10-point lead. The Jays responded with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the DCB lead to two at 22-20. The Jacks then slowly pushed the lead back up to double figures where it would stay for most of the remainder of the first half. A late burst by Minnesota West would get the game back to single digits with DCB leading 44-36 at the half. The Lumberjacks would keep the Jays at arm's length away for much of the second half, with Minnesota West getting as close as 53-50 5 minutes into the second half. The Jacks lead ballooned up to as many as 17 before a late Jays run would make things interesting. A few key stops and made free throws resulted in a 90-82 Jacks victory. Edward Lual led all scorers and four Lumberjacks in double figures with 25 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting. Jaden Arzola scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. MarQuez Tyree and Damjan Tapuskovic finished with 11 points each. Da'Shaundris Moore led Minnesota West with 16 points.
67-58 Win over Gillette College
Both offenses struggled to get anything going early as through 8 minutes of action the two teams had combined for just 24 points with the Pronghorns leading 13-11. Late in the first half both offenses found some momentum trading baskets back and forth. The Lumberjacks held a narrow 31-28 halftime lead. The Jacks started the second half strong with a 12-4 run over the first 6 minutes to take control. DCB would hold the lead for the remainder of the game, never allowing Gillette to get closer than two possessions and going on to win 67-58. Moustapha Diomande led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 17 points. Elijah Reynolds added 14 off the bench, and Arzola scored 13. Diabe Bathily led Gillette and all scorers with 21 points.
