Jacks Roll Past Bison

The Lumberjack Women's Hockey team earned two big wins this weekend sweeping NDSU 16-1 and 7-2.

16-1 Win

The Bison opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead but failed to score the remainder of the contest. Randell Banga scored her first goal of the season to get the Jacks on the board Jordyn Johnson had the assist.  Macy Wither gave the Jacks the lead at the halfway point of the period, Johnson picked up another assist.

The Jacks broke things open in the second period with 7 goals. Banga netted her second goal of the contest to open the third period. Just sixty seconds later, Hope Zirk found the back of the net for first time this season, Cydny Price and Johnson were credited with assists. Carli Durston put the Jacks ahead 5-1 just five minutes into the second period, Danee Crepeele and Johnson had the assist. Kaitlyn Haight would be the next to break into the scoring column with her first goal of the season, Maya Mortensen assisted. Durston scored her second goal of the period off a Haight assist. Haight then scored back-to-back goals in the final two minutes of the period to put DCB up 9-1 after two periods. The first goal was assisted by Johnson, her 5th assist of the game and the second was unassisted.

Cameren Rudniski opened the scoring for the Jacks in the third Haight added another assist. Mortensen and Johnosn each scored unassisted goals to extend the DCB lead. Price would then be the next to find paydirt Zirk and Crepeele assisted. Just past the halfway point of the third period Calleja Misson scored an unassisted goal. DCB continued to find the back of the net at will Haight scored her fourth goal of the contest off a Durston assist. Mortensen closed out the scoring for the Jacks Stephanie Hogan assisted. The Jacks took game one of the series 16-1. Olivia Vaagen got the win in net.

7-2 Win

Misson opened the scoring for DCB with back-to-back unassisted goals. Harliegh Parisien then scored her first goal of the season also unassisted. NDSU was able to get on the board late in the first period to make it 3-1 DCB. Haight continued her strong weekend with her fifth goal in two games, The Bison scored next to make it 4-2. Another Lumberjack goal by Durston made it 5-2 DCB, Haight and Misson assisted. Two goals in the third period gave the Jacks a 7-2 win. The first goal in the period was scored by Banga unassisted and the second by Zirk with Johnson tallying her 6th assist of the weekend. Caitlin Fillion got the win in net.

With the win DCB improves to 8-6-1-0. The Jacks were ranked 5th in the West Region Rankings prior to the Holiday break. A new ranking will be out in the coming days. Teams must be ranked in the top four to receive an invite to the National Tournament. This coming weekend DCB travels to the Twin Cites to take on St Thomas who is currently ranked second in the West Region. Game times are set for 12:30p.m. and 11:00a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
