The Lumberjack Men's Hockey team split a pair of high scoring games Friday and Saturday with the University of Jamestown, picking up a 7-6 win in overtime Friday and falling 7-5 on Saturday.
7-6 OT Win
Coen Schmeichel got the Jacks on the board first 5 minutes into the contest, Gage Fox and Kayden Cey had the assists. DCB extended the lead to two zero when Kelson Wuttunee found the back of the net, Marshall Kiteley and Christian Crutcher were credited with the assists. Two quick goals by the Jimmies tied the game at 2-2. The Jacks struck last in the first period when Crutcher scored off assists from Marcus Loorits and Cey.
Jamestown tied the game two minutes into the second period. It took less than two minutes for the Jacks to retake the lead. Crutcher connected with Loorits and Cey for the second time, this time on the powerplay. Cey pushed DCB lead to two goals just 34 seconds later thanks to assists from Riley Opperude and Schmeichel.
In the third period four goals were scored in less than three minutes. Two quick Jimmie goals tied the game. The Jacks quickly retook the lead on Cey's second goal of the game, Schmeichel and Aidan Diehl assisted. The Jimmies weren't done though as they scored to tie the game back up at 6-6 with just two minutes and change left in regulation. There was no scoring in the final two minutes, so the teams prepared for overtime. It took just 14 seconds for Schmeichel to net the game winning goal in the extra period to give DCB the win, Cey added another assist to his total. Caedon Bellmann picked up the win in net for the Jacks.
7-5 loss
DCB found themselves down 7-0 after two periods on Saturday. The Jacks didn't quit, however, scoring five goals in the first nine minutes of the final period to give themselves a shot at the comeback. Crutcher scored the first goal for the Jacks on the powerplay. Jeremy Klimchuk and Cey assisted. The next goal came just 18 seconds later while on the powerplay Loorits scored unassisted. Cey scored the Jacks' third goal within a 33 second time frame Crutcher assisted. Loorits then scored his second goal of the period this goal was also unassisted. Schmeichel concluded the scoring for the Jacks with Diehl and Kiteley assisting. DCB had another powerplay opportunity to bring the deficit down to one, but they couldn't find the back of the net. The Jacks 3rd period rally fell short, falling 7-5.
