The streak is alive with 5 wins over Regional opponents this past weekend in Rochester, Minnesota. DCB softball has now won 13 games in a row and sits at 16-4 for the season.
On Friday DCB defeated Northland 5-2, Anoka Ramsey 7-2 and Rainy River 5-1. Saturday they defeated Minnesota State Fergus Falls 10-0 and Riverland College 13-2.
Game 1. Freshman pitcher Kassidy Cunningham survived 7 walks as she struckout 10 and gave up just 4 hits to pick up the hard fought win. Freshman 1B Elisa Clay picked up three hits while Cunningham, Alysha Cantu and Claire Hiebert added two hits each, including Hiebert's first homerun of the season.
Game 2. Redshirt freshman Randee Charlo picked up the win tossing a one-hitter and going the distance in the 7-2 win over Anoka Ramsey. She struck out 10 while walking 3. Cunningham, Clay and freshman SS Michelle Krahn added two hits to lead the Ladyjacks.
Game 3. Against Rainy River the Ladyjacks were down 1-0 heading to the 6th inning before they scored two to take the lead. They added three more in the 7th for a 5-1 win. Cunningham picked up her 2nd win of the day giving up just 2 hits while striking out 8 with no walks. 6 different Ladyjacks had a hit apiece with Krahn adding her 2nd homerun of the season.
Game 4. The Ladyjacks exploded for 6 runs in the 4th inning after a single run in the first to put the game out of reach. Fergus falls managed just two hits off Charlo as she picked up her second win of the weekend. She struck out 8 while walking just 2. Freshman Ladaija Fitzgerald had three hits while freshman CF Stephany Ahmed dealt the big blow with a grand slam homer in that big fourth inning. It was her first homerun of the year to go with a single, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBI. Krahn pitched in with two hits as well.
Game 5. DCB scored 3 in the opening inning and never looked back defeating Riverland 13-2. Sophomore Kennedy Cunningham picked up the win striking out 6 in her four innings of work. Her sister Kassidy pitched the fifth to close out the 5 inning run-rule game. Hiebert had 3 hits and 4 RBI while Clay, and freshman utility player Summer DarcAngelo had 2 hits.
The Ladyjacks will travel to Jamestown Monday to take on the Jimmies JV team. This will be a tough battle as the Jimmies have a top 25 calibre NAIA team with a lot of quality freshman and sophomores.
Game time is 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
